Community Day of Service a Success!05/15/12
Seattle – This year, members of Starbucks China Club and students from One World Now joined forces to organize a Community Day of Service that took place at Kin On last month.
Over 60 volunteers came to lend a hand that day --ranging from Starbucks employees and family members, One World Now high school students who are studying Chinese/Mandarin in preparation for their summer exchange program in China, as well as Kin On Board members and volunteers. Together, over 180+ volunteer hours combined were contributed!
The day began with a meet and greet with members of all three organizations. Volunteers then worked on projects including decorating flower pots with residents to van detailing and window cleaning. The fun-filled day concluded with a delicious lunch prepared by Kin On board members and community volunteers!
One volunteer shared, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with young students who are interested in Chinese culture. I also had an opportunity to talk to a Kin On Staff worker and the elderly while cleaning windows in their room. That was very special for me. This was one of my most rewarding volunteer experience!”
